We Love Science!
All this week, we have been talking about science–what it is, and the different steps we take when doing an experiment. Different vocabulary we introduced: prediction, observe, materials, record, and discuss.
Today, we did a science experiment involving a ‘mystery item’. We first drew our experimental setup (for them, I told them to draw what their materials looked like). Next, we made predictions with our partners as to what would happen. Many students guessed, or predicted, that their cups of water would turn the color of the capsules. Then, I came around and put our ‘mystery item’ in their cups of water.
The class really worked on their observing skills, and got to see their little capsules turn into different animals! They loved getting to see what it would turn into! (All of them had different animals).
In the photos, you will see the various colors and animals the students discovered.
Tomorrow, we will discuss out results, and compare them to what we predicted. It will be a great learning experience for them, especially because nobody knew the little capsules would turn into an animal! 🙂
I hope you enjoyed seeing pictures of our first science experiment! The students were all very excited and engaged! I’m sure they will tell you about what they saw at home!
